2016 Toyota Vios, Yaris refreshed with Dual VVT-i, CVT

Toyota officially launches upgraded Vios, Yaris

Toyota Motors Philippines has indeed given their B-segment contender a powertrain upgrade after the company officially launched the refreshed Vios and Yaris. Now benefitting from Dual VVT-i and a new continuously variable transmission (CVT) option, Toyota aims to make both models to deliver better performance and fuel efficiency.

 Replacing the outgoing NZ family of engines is the new NR series. First up is the 1.3-liter mill which produces 99 PS (+13 PS) at 6000 rpm and 123 Nm (+1 Nm) of torque at 4200 rpm. Next is the top-of-the range 1.5-liter motor that generates 108 PS (+1 PS) at 6000 rpm along with 140 Nm (-2Nm) of torque at 4200 rpm.

The 5-speed manual gearbox will still be available but the 4-speed automatic tranmission has been replaced by a CVT with a 7-speed sequential shift mode. With it, Toyota claimed that the new powertrain will help both cars achieve better mileage, power delivery and reduced emissions.

Apart from the new engines and transmission, Toyota also said that the interior of the both models get a slight update as well. The Vios and Yaris get new sporty fabric seats and dark silver trim on the touchscreen infotainment.

For aesthetics, the G variants of the Vios get new chrome trim pieces for the foglights. Also, the Vios gets two new color options: Alumina Jade Metallic and Blackish Red Mica. The Yaris, on the other hand, retained its color selection from the pre-facelift model.
