2016 Toyota Innova debuts in the Philippines
All-new Innova completes second generation Toyota IMV lineup in PH
With the launch of the Hilux and the Fortuner, it was only a matter of time before the second generation Toyota Innova arrived in the Philippines. Toyota has now launched the all-new MPV in the country and now completes the next-gen IMV platform lineup.
The all-new Innova is bigger than its predecessor, gaining a significant 150 mm in length, 55 mm in width and gaining 35 mm in height. The MPV now measures in at 4,735 mm long, 1,830 mm and 1,795 mm tall. Interestingly, this makes the 2016 Innova longer than the first generation Fortuner. For the Philippine market, the Innova comes in four trim levels: The base J, the mid-level E, the higher spec G and the top of the line V.
As for its looks, gone is the conservative exterior and in its place is a bolder, more sophisticated look. It has new longer wraparound headlights with LED projectors and DRLs for the top-spec V grade, while other models get multi reflector halogen headlamps. Its grill design that is a larger interpretation on the one's found in the Avanza. Moving to its side, it has a distinct character line that can be seen on the middle section of the MPV along with a pinched third-row window. The New Innova rides on either 16- or 17-inch rims, depending on the variant. Towards the back, new combination taillights and a reworked tailgate adorn the rear section of the MPV. Completing the new look of the 2016 Innova is a new roof-mounted spoiler that also carries a stop lamp which is standard on all variants.
The more upmarket look carries on inside with a driver oriented dashboard that features a sweeping design while the dual gauge cluster is now illuminated. Soft touch materials also make their way in the cabin, giving the MPV a more upmarket feel. Gains in length and width have also given the Innova interior more room and maximizing utility is a large amount of cupholders and storage bins. A seatback table is also available in the G and V models. All G and V models get a touchscreen standard.
On the safety front, top spec Innovas get Vehicle Stability Control standard, along with Traction Control. The rest of the lineup gets Anti-lock brakes as standard. The J and E variants get driver, passenger and knee (for driver's side) airbags while G and V models get a total of 7 which includes side and curtain airbags.
For the Philippine market, the Innova gets a slightly detuned version of the 2.8 liter GD turbodiesel engine found in the Hilux and Fortuner. Power is rated at 171 PS and 360 Nm of torque. Gas powered Innovas retain the familiar 2.0 liter TR engine with 136 PS and 183 Nm of torque. Automatic transmission models inherit the manumatic 6 speed automatic from its IMV cousins and also gets power and economy modes. A five speed manual is also available.
